Galapagos works to further improve the quality of the tourism industry, this time with the formation of new specialized guides. 167 professionals were trained with the main objective of offering services that guarantee the tourists safety, while contributing to the preservation of the natural heritage.

The training process was carried out by Universidad San Francisco de Quito, as part of an agreement between the ministries of Tourism and Environment. The activity was carried out between the Insular Zone coordination, the Management of the Galapagos National Park, and the permanent residents of the islands.

Gabriela Echeverría, responsible for the Zonal Insular Coordination, mentioned that the professionalization of the guides will ensure a high quality of the tourism destination, with strict adherence to conservation principles. For Indira Torres, inhabitant of Santa Cruz, culminating the course represents a commitment to continue training in order to provide a unique experience for visitors.

In Santa Cruz Island, 15 specialized guides received the accreditations that qualify them for the guiding exercise. The other applicants will have the accreditation document delivered by the National Environmental Authority.
